Statement on CT House of Representatives Passing SB-1501

Nuclear Matters applauds the Connecticut House of Representatives for taking action to pass SB-1501, which passed the State Senate last month. Its action was a vote to save well-paying jobs, local economic vitality and the environment by properly valuing nuclear energy as a zero-carbon electricity generating resource in the state.

The bill is a meaningful step forward to preserve the 1,450 jobs, $17 million in local tax revenue, and 97 percent of the state’s carbon-free power that the Millstone Nuclear Generation Station provides Connecticut. We encourage Governor Malloy to sign the bill into law thereby joining other states, like New York and Illinois, which support clean energy and properly value the economic and environmental benefits of nuclear energy.
