Nuclear Matters Statement on FERC Proposed Rulemaking

Secretary Perry is to be commended for recognizing the urgent need for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to address critical threats to our energy grid and acting to address them. Absent near-term action by policymakers, nuclear reactors are poised to close prematurely at an alarming rate. We also see that the core attributes of nuclear energy such as its resiliency and reliability are on display during extreme weather. Asking FERC to consider reform that would properly value energy sources that contribute to the reliability and resiliency of the grid, like nuclear energy, is prudent and necessary.

We encourage FERC to move swiftly to consider Secretary Perry’s request.  Appropriate FERC action will help to preserve the diversity of energy sources while ensuring the long-term reliability and security  of the energy grid.
