Nuclear Matters Statement on Clean Energy Standard Lawsuit

October 19, 2016 – The lawsuit brought today by select generators attacking the inclusion of nuclear in the Clean Energy Standard (CES) ignores the demonstrable benefits of nuclear and its importance to our economy, environment, and electric grid.

According to an analysis by the Brattle Group, the nuclear plants that the CES would preserve prevent 16 million tons of carbon dioxide and provide more than 25,000 jobs for New York.

It’s also important to note that the CES was implemented carefully and deliberately over many months, and with the support of a broad coalition of hundreds of parties including business groups, labor, electricity providers and environmentalists.

We are confident that the court will reject this suit and recognize the well-established value of nuclear energy to New York.
