Nuclear Matters Statement on the Unanimous Approval of Continued Vogtle Construction

Nuclear Matters applauds the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) for unanimously approving the continued construction at Plant Vogtle. With this approval, Vogtle nuclear reactors 3 and 4 will move forward and, once completed, be our country’s first new nuclear units in 30 years. The reactors will help supply reliable, resilient, and emission-free energy to power nearly 500,000 homes and business in Georgia.

Nuclear energy comprises over 25% of Georgia’s energy consumption and supports over 6,000 jobs in the state, 5,000 of which are directly attributed to the construction of these new reactors. This decision is crucial to supporting Georgia’s diverse energy supply and recognizing the importance of nuclear energy to the state’s economy, our national security, and environmental future.
